MISSISSAUGA, ON - April 23, 2007 -- KONICA MINOLTA BUSINESS SOLUTIONS (CANADA) LTD. (KONICA MINOLTA) and Hockey Canada announce a four-year agreement naming KONICA MINOLTA as an International Marketing Partner of Hockey Canada. The companies will work together to promote Canada's National game and to lead, develop, and promote positive hockey experiences. Through this strategic partnership, KONICA MINOLTA gains the benefit of exclusive promotion rights in the business equipment category, as well as full event sponsorship benefits at all Hockey Canada-hosted events.
"KONICA MINOLTA has a history of supporting athletes and athletic associations around the world. Therefore, it's fitting that we have become a major sponsor of the sole governing body for amateur hockey in Canada," says Ken Umeda, President, KONICA BUSINESS SOLUTIONS (CANADA) LTD. "We are proud to be associated with Hockey Canada for many reasons including our shared values of honesty, integrity, determination, and the pursuit of excellence," he adds.
The new agreement includes six national events per year - TELUS Cup, RBC Royal Bank Cup, Esso Women's Nationals, World Under-17 Challenge, Women's Under-18 Championship, and the World Junior A Challenge - and a minimum of three international events - 2007 World Women's Hockey Championship in Winnipeg and Selkirk, Manitoba; 2008 Men's World Championship in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Quebec City, Quebec; 2009 World Junior Hockey Championship in Ottawa, Ontario, and all national team pre-tournament events hosted by Hockey Canada.
"Hockey Canada is very excited to have KONICA MINOLTA join our family of corporate partners," said Scott Smith, executive vice-president of Hockey Canada. "Our relationship with KONICA MINOLTA will be very valuable to our programs and events, and allow KONICA MINOLTA the rare opportunity to interact with fans of our great game from coast to coast."
Hockey Canada is the national governing body for grassroots hockey. Our main focus is to work with the 13 Provincial Branch Associations, the Canadian Hockey League, and the Canadian Inter-University Sport to grow the game of Hockey in Canada at all levels.
Over 4.5 million Canadians are involved in hockey as dedicated coaches, players, officials, administrators or direct volunteers - not including enthusiastic spectators, parents, and occasional volunteers.
